How do we challenge our digital learners?

As teachers, we spend a lot of time trying to incorporate all kinds of web 2.0 tools into our lessons.  For example, having students create presentations via Prezi or VoiceThread, as opposed to using PowerPoint.  Do you think we should be teaching our students how to make these kinds of programs instead of how to use them?

Very interesting video about kids learning to code, and what 2030 will look like…Very thoughtful! It talks about how teachers can be experts in an area, but kids can Google what we say and they become the experts. So….why not let them be the experts and explain things to us?  I put this link on the links page also.

Hey everyone,

What is Digital Literacy?

Okay…Let’s start with this. Once we define digital literacy, we can discuss the best ways to improve in this area and to understand it more fully and therefore help us to educate our students, right? Wikipedia says it “is the ability to locate, organize, understand, evaluate, and create information using digital technology” or “the ability to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate and create information using a range of digital technologies.”

Soooo, does this just mean being able to use the internet and all of its tools, or does it mean using all different tools, like cell phones, iPads, eReaders, etc.?
